Houthi rebels stated they would continue to defend themselves following American attacks
SANA’A (QJ) – Houthi rebels’ spokesperson in Yemen, Mohammed Abdulsalam, stated that his country would continue to defend itself after several American attacks targeted facilities in the capital, Sana’a.
The US military said that on Monday and Tuesday, they launched attacks against Houthi targets in the capital Sanaa and the Yemeni coast.
The Houthi-controlled Al Masirah TV reported that US warplanes carried out 12 airstrikes targeting two districts in Sanaa.
The Iran-aligned group fighting in Yemen has been attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea for over a year, attempting to enforce a naval blockade against Israel. They claim to act in support of Palestinians attacked during Israel’s year-long devastating war in Gaza.
Last week, at least three people were killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes on Yemen’s airport. Three more died in various attacks on the port city of Hudaydah.
The attack on Sanaa’s airport occurred as the World Health Organization’s director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said he was planning to take a flight from there.
The Houthis pledged to respond swiftly to the attack, promising “escalation and increase.”
The Houthis took control of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, in 2014 and have been fighting against Saudi-led coalition-backed forces, including the Yemeni government, in the years since.
