He Is Not a Military Leader But Rather a Visionary Leader (the one we need at the moment).
In post independence Africa, the political situations prevailing in the continent continued to be characterized more often by military coup d’ètat as a means of gaining power by over throwing democratically elected civilian governments.
As a result of this, it is said that Africa experienced about 196 coups d’état between 1956-2015.
The military coup makers claimed the governments they overthrew were corrupt and incompetent who failed to deliver democracy to the people.
It is true the political leaders, who had assumed state power had promised to the people that they will engage an economic development, create jobs and thus alleviate poverty; but unfortunately all of these became non implemented promises which were just a rhetorical. It is also equally true that the military leaders did not do any better of their promises notwithstanding.
Because in Africa at earlier times the military were welcomed by the people hoping for a better time to improve their livelihoods, but this dream went in to astray and the military ended up more corrupted than civilian governments they overthrew.
Going in to details , as stated above in 1960’s and 1970’s were a series of coups in Africa. For example: in Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Somalia, Nigeria, Ghana, Zaire, central African republic and Uganda and lately in 2010’s in Burundi, Niger, Madagascar and some other African countries.
So that i would like today to explain briefly about that military ruling systems and how they ended up.
In Algeria under Boumedienne, ran a system of benevolent dictatorship. A development plan was formulated whose key program was industrialization. This was in domestic policy. In foreign policy he perused non-alignment, pan-African and pan-Arab policy. However, the system remained a military regime with no democratic constitution and the rule of law with continues bloodsheds.
Coming to the recently failed nation; Libya. It has been ruled by colonel Gaddafi (may Allah rest him in peace) for over 42 years. He proclaimed a welfare state. He propagated his philosophy in his green book what is called” a third universal theory” which would replace both capitalism and communism.
Gaddafi never allowed dissent, free press nor opposition party( in my point of view a part from the other theorical believes led by the westerners Gaddafi was not only a dictator ship but he was a true patriotic leader who sacrificed a lot for his nation but spoiled by over acting deeds).
In foreign policy, first he persuaded pro-Arab policy.
When that did not work and took the eyes out by the other Arabs he turned to Africa and persuaded pro-African policy and advocated the establishment of a union government immediately but unfortunately this didn’t work because it is had been hindered by the other Africans and his dictatorship acts which he needed to become the king of that empire.
Hence by continuing such deeds he ended up that he had been killed by his own people hiding in a dessert district.
On the other side, the Egyptian coup was staged in 1952 by the free officers led colonel Jamal Abdul nasir.
In his philosophy of the revolution nasser envisaged Egypt as the centre of three circles named the arab world, the Muslim world and Africa.
how ever nasser left the ruling scene with out realizing his vision.
Nasser was succeeded by Sadat(1970-81). He continued nasser’s policy of economic development. In foreign policy his major achievement was his rapprochement with israel which led to his diwnfall.
Sadat was succeded by Hosny mubarak an other military dictator who ruled Egypy for 32 years. Hosny was marked by a kindles dictator who was a pupet if israel and finally he was overthrown by popular uprisings in 2011.
These are not the only historical coups which led to africa where it is and was not only confined to the Arabs but even as a somalis in october 1969 a bloodless coup in somalia was staged by the military led bu major-general Mohamed siyad barre.
Siyad barre was a kindles dictator who ruled in somalia about 20 years in that 2o years in the first 7 years he did an excellent job which have never been done before him as well as after him including military empowerment, foreign policy development, economic boosting and patriotism strengening.
But all of these became self destructed after the coup turned in to bloodshed coup by killing, raping and torturing to the citizens, not only this siyad barre had also did the worst ever genocide done by a president to his people; after he stroke to an airplane which had flown the same city it bumped to the country currently known as SOMALILAND (A COUNTRY which regained its sovereignty from somalia in 1991).
Finally an uprisings started in 1980’s which ended up to the fall of siyad barre.
On the other hand Nigeria, Ghana, Zaire and Central republic of africa had also sufferred the same thing.
By the way the main reason i have stated all of these consequences is that there is a scenario moving in the politics of Somaliland now a days which says “we don’t need for a soldier to rule us, but what i have noticed is that the soldier we don’t need is the one which comes to a coup but not the one we elect democratically as well as who has been a civilian for the past 30 years like the current contestant of the presidential candidate in kulmiye party Musse biihi. Muuse has been a civilian as well as a leader who took part a lot of the national conferences and reconciliations which rebuilt this nation, he was also one of the master minds which behind the military, parliament, council of elders and the reconciliations.
Not only this, but also he was the first minister of interior affairs who landed at sool region; specifically laascaanood and led the reconciliation committee from that region. Hence, what we need is the one who can understand the land, the people, the past history and the current history.
because at the moment we are in need of him since we are not strong militarily, territorially and patriotically.
We need to become a strong nation which can’t be couped or being tried to do soon. Because there are lots of trials as
We have heard yesterday that wiki leaks has disclosed that high rank officials in destructed Islamic courts were planning to coup Somaliland’s government by establishing a mercenaries in the Somaliland military; not only this there are also an insurgents in both the eastern and western destinations of the country which we need to disarm as well as to negotiate with.
Hence, so as to facilitate all of these talks we need a leader with the knowledge of both the military and the people.
We need a leader who is a citizen, honest and decision maker.
We need a leader who can understand the neighboring countries including Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya.
We need a leader who has a vision of a nationwide development. Also we need a leader who knows what unity and nationhood like.
Not a leader who drunk a water with Somalia, not a leader who cried for Somalia’s soldiers and not for Somaliland.
We don’t need a leader who didn’t bring any change in the era he was the minister. Not the one who has black records in neither the world nor the vision less leaders?
We don’t need the money makers and the haters of the development ( samale refused for becoming the minister of education after a reshuffle done by the president).
