Hargeisa Shines Brighter With New Solar Powered Street Lights

Hargeisa, 27 Feb 2014 (SDN) – Following Hargeisa’s road rehabilitation project, the city will take another step toward a greener environment with the installation of new solar powered and LED Street lights.
The Mayor of Hargeisa Mr. Abdirahman Mohamoud Adam (Soltelco) has on Wednesday announced the launching of the first solar street lights which will be a big help to the city to have light in the roads at all times.
According to Mayor Soltelco, the project on the solar street lights in the city estimated to cost $200,000 in which the central government provided an assistance of $100,000 for this task.
During the initiation of the street lights project, the Mayor said “This is part of the new program we are starting in the city and we will ensure that we put the street lights in the entire Hargeisa city. He also thanked the government for working towards ensuring that Hargeisa city is beautified”
These solar installations will assist in beautifying the city and curbing crime in some areas of the city at the same time assist in making Somaliland a 24 hour economy. The Street lights are automatic in nature and charges during the day and automatically switches on during the night.
