Governor Seeks Somali Support in Minnesota

Minnesota SDN-Members of Minnesota’s Somali Community took part in events to mark the Voice for Children Advocacy Day at the State Capitol building. Minnesota’s Governor Mark Dayton addressed the early childhood education needs of his constituents and vowed to work with all stakeholders in making education and early childhood development priorities for the government.

Children, parents and teachers from all over the state took part in the event. Somali community members from Ethiopia’s Somali region met with the Governor and agreed to work together on issues affecting the entire Somali community.

Although the event was meant to be an outreach tool to support children and schools, political undertones were prevalent with many councilmen seeking re-election and courting the Somali community for votes. Members of the Somali-Ethiopian community vowed to unify their vote to support the Governor so that Somali-Ethiopian issues can receive support in the future.
