Ethiopia and Somaliland delegation sent by fighting armed Gaashaamo
Hargaysa 11.June 2016 (SDN/QJ):- The State Foreign Affairs Minister for the Federal Government of Ethiopia leading a high powered delegation set to visit Somaliland on Saturday.
The Ethiopian delegates are due to hold talks with Somaliland government officials over the deadly skirmishes between Liyuu police and Gashamo inhabitants that left many innocent civilians killed.
President of Somaliland HE Ahmed Silanyo and his senior cabinet ministers will discuss with Ethiopian delegation over the massacre that saw the killing of defenseless civilians in Gaasahamo after the paramilitary militia, the Liyuu police have launched a surprise raid to the innocent civilians.
The mission of the two sides is to bring an end to the acrimony and pave the way for resolving the tension which is running high in Gaashamo.
Clashes between Liyuu police with inhabitants from the community that live in Ogaden is a common occurrence in recent years where the skirmishes took place the border between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
Many experts said that the motive behind such clashes is believed to be ethnic cleaning motivated by the leader of Somali adminstration in Ethiopia, Abdi Illey.
The country’s foreign affairs minister, Sa’ad Ali Shire met with Ethiopian head of Consulate mission to Hargeisa and discussed ways of ending the hostilities between the two sides.
The Ethiopian Federal government has tightened the security of border areas where the clashes happened.
Somaliland and Ethiopia have bilateral ties on security, trade and border crossing movement cooperations.
Traditional chiefs from Somaliland are doing all they can to prevent further clashes to happen.
The State FM will do all the efforts to diffuse escalating tensions in the area.
