Child Traffickers Arrested in Berbera, Somaliland
Berbera, (SDN)–Nine children were taken into the custody of the Somaliland government after being found aboard a ship named NOPE-2 in Berbera’s harbour which recently arrived from Yemen. The group of children which included boys and girls were travelling with two Ethiopian men who are accused of kidnapping the children from Yemen, possibly from refugee camps there.
Security officials arrested the men who are currently in jail being interrogated. An investigation is underway in order to determine the relationship between the men and the children, identifying the children`s country of origin and to verify their identities.
A similar case emerged in the Puntland where a man from southern Somalia was arrested after attempting to take several children from that region to Yemen in order to sell them, the man was later charged with child trafficking is serving a lengthy prison sentence.
