Abdi Noel Wins Final Battle To Be Buried In Djibouti
Djibouti (SDN) -Reports say the President of Djibouti has refused to allow the President of the Human Rights Association of Djibouti to be buried at home. The renowned human rights leader passed away recently in France where he was receiving treatment for an ongoing illness.
Members of Djibouti’s Human Rights Association told SDN that they were in the midst of preparing a national burial for the deceased when President Geelle cited the possibility of public unrest as the primary reason to cancel the funeral.
The dispute led to the intervention of ambassadors from western nations who convinced the President to allow the deceased to be buried in his motherland.
Those involved in planning the funeral told SDN that Abdi Noel’s body is being repatriated today and the burial will follow soon after.
Abdi Noel’s advocacy often made him a target of government officials and apparently the animosity still lives long after his death.
