UN Envoy and Somali president agree on the MP selection process
Mogadishu(SDN)-UN Envoy to Somalia Ambassador Augustine Mahiga and the president of Somalia Sheik Shariif met in Mogadishu to discuss the MP selection for the Somali Parliament which is currently underway with some difficulty.
The two discussed and agreed that all should be equal under the process unless there are issues regarding the law.
“We discussed and agreed that by August 20 we should at least have a Parliament in place,we should adhere to the previous agreements in Garoowe,Nairobi and Adis Ababa”the president told the media after the meeting with the UN Envoy.
“There should not be exclusion of anyone or group to join the house,if issues arise the counsel of elders should solve them” said Mr Shariif.
UN Envoy to Somalia Agustine Mahiga who also spoke with the media after the meeting confirmed the agreement between him and the Somali president.
“Only the Somali traditional leaders are the ones who can put forward the MP’s,and as the president said there should not be any exclusion by an individual or a group”said the the Envoy.
The meeting came about after the Somali parliamentary selection committee excluded some candidates implying that they committed crimes.
