Al-Shabaab Goes Off the Air
Lower Shabelle (SDN)- The Undulus broadcasting station used by the Al-Shabaab militant group’s communication arm has been off the air for the last few days following the expansion of AMISOM’s offensive military campaign in the region.
The city of Ceelasha Biyaha where the broadcaster is located has been under siege for several days in a bid by AMISOM to eradicate Al-Shabaab control.
The Undulus channel was the sole direct source of information from Al-Shabaab which often included propaganda from the group’s leadership, threats to government officials and ideological programing.
The last broadcast from the channel was heard on Tuesday. Similarly, the group’s twitter page was last updated on Tuesday May 22nd. It remains to be seen if this is an indication of Al-Shabaab’s defeat or a period of quiet before the storm.
