South African Mercenary Killed in Puntland

Iskushuban, Puntland(SDN) –A security official with SARACEN International who was hired to train Puntland’s navy in counter-piracy was killed on April 27th after being shot in the Timirshe neighbourhood of Iskushuban in the region of Bari.

Conflicting reports are emerging regarding the death of the foreigner who is a South African national and was working as a security consultant with the Somali navy.

It is believed that the shooting followed an argument between the victim and a Somali naval officer who opened fire on the man who died immediately.

A private plane landed at the region’s naval base located in the west-end of Bosaaso last night which was commissioned by the SARACEN organization to repatriate the body of the dead security official.

The regional administration of Puntland and the Puntland navy has yet to comment on the incident. This is the first casualty for SARACEN in the duration of their contract with the Puntland government.

SARACEN is yet another armed international player in the Somali arena capitalizing on the failed capacity and insecurity of the Transitional Federal Government and regional administrations.
