Al-Shabaab’s Leader Listed as One of Time Magazine’s Most Influential

Washington (SDN/Time)-Mukhtaar Abu Zubeyr (Ina Godane) the leader of Al-Shabaab who is currently engaged in an on-going battle for control of Somalia with the Transitional Federal Government and African Union forces has recently been named as one of Time Magazine’s Most Influential People In the World.

According to the publication Ina Godane built his military experience fighting in Afghanistan and took over the leadership of Al-Shabaab after Haashi Ceyroow was killed. He received the position after a lengthy internal competition against Muktar Rooboow.

The militant group grew under his leadership forcing Somalia’s TFG government to wage an all-out war against them. Over the last year the government and its allies have gained significant ground in this regard. Recent reports from Somalia indict Ina Godane in the execution of Al-Shabaab’s American frontman Omar Hammami also known as Al-Amriki.
