Terror Group Allegedly Threatens Local Somali Advocate

A well-known advocate for the local Somali community says he is a target of the terrorist group Al-Shabaab.

Omar Jamal encourages young Somali men to resist the group’s recruiting efforts. He told police Al-Shabaab was threatening him via texts and phone calls.

Dahir Jibreel, head of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center and a friend of Jamal’s, says he’s not sure the group is capable of actually hurting Jamal in Minnesota.

He says it’s clear, however, that the terror group views Jamal as a threat to local recruiting efforts.

“Everyone who challenges Al-Shabaab inside or outside Somalia, they perceive that person as a threat to them and to their ideology,” Jibreel said.
