The EU criticizes Israeli actions in the West Bank

Brussels (QJ) -The European Union (EU) has criticized the military operations carried out by Israel in the occupied West Bank. In a statement, the EU expressed “grave concern” over Israel’s ongoing military activities in the West Bank.

The EU called on Israel, while addressing its security concerns in the occupied West Bank, to comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law and ensure the protection of all civilians during military operations, allowing displaced persons to safely return to their homes.

The statement also highlighted that “violence by extremist settlers continues across the West Bank, including in East Jerusalem.” The EU reminded Israel, as the occupying power, of its responsibility to protect civilians and hold perpetrators of violence accountable.

Additionally, the EU condemned Israel’s settlement expansion policy in the West Bank and urged an immediate halt to the destruction of structures, including those funded by the EU and its member states.

The EU also criticized the increasing restrictions and systematic repression of movement across the West Bank.

As the holy month of Ramadan began, the EU called on all parties to exercise restraint to allow for peaceful celebrations.

Israel’s military operations in the occupied territories have continued for over 40 days, resulting in significant casualties, nearly 40,000 displaced Palestinians, and the destruction of civilian infrastructure.
