Trump imposed sanctions on the ICC

WASHINGTON (SD) – U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized the International Criminal Court (ICC), accusing it of taking illegal actions against the U.S. and Israel.

In an executive order, Trump imposed sanctions on the court, stating that it had misused its authority after issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister.

The sanctions include financial restrictions and visa bans on individuals and their families who assist ICC investigations against U.S. citizens or its allies.

Trump signed this measure during a visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Washington.

The Netherlands, which hosts the court, expressed its regret over Trump’s order. “The court’s work is essential for combating impunity,” said Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Voldkamp.

In November, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu over alleged war crimes in Gaza, which Israel denied. The court also issued a warrant for a Hamas commander.
