Lebanese Prime Minister condemns Israeli strikes in Lebanon

Beirut September 28, 2024(QJ) -Najib Mikati, the interim Prime Minister of Lebanon, condemned the airstrikes on Friday that resulted in the deaths of Lebanese civilians and the leader of Hezbollah in the Dahiya neighborhood of Beirut.

In a statement, Mikati urged the Lebanese people to “unite in the face of aggression,” as the country remains on the brink of a humanitarian and economic crisis.

At an emergency cabinet meeting called upon his return from the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Mikati announced that all government-run institutions would be closed on Monday.

Hassan Nasrallah, one of the founders of the Hezbollah organization, which was established forty years ago with the support of Iran, has overseen its transformation into one of the most powerful militias in the Middle East.

The airstrikes targeting Nasrallah struck a densely populated area, killing at least six people and injuring dozens more, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health. On Saturday, Israel launched additional attacks, claiming to target Hezbollah positions in Beirut. Lebanese officials reported that over 1,000 people have been killed since last week.
