Somalia’s PM meets with UN Secretary General

NY (QJ) -The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Hamza Abdi Barre, held an important meeting with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, at the United Nations General Assembly session.

During their meeting, the Prime Minister and the Secretary-General deeply discussed strengthening the relationship and cooperation between Somalia and the United Nations. It was noted that Somalia is preparing to assume the membership seat on the United Nations Security Council for the years 2025 – 2026.

Furthermore, the two officials discussed the United Nations mission in Somalia (UNSOM), with the Secretary-General welcoming the Somali government’s proposal regarding the plans for the UN office and the strategy following the withdrawal of African Union forces from Somalia.
