President Recep Tayyip Erdogan: Turkey might intervene in Israel

Ankara July 29, 2024(QJ)-President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey stated on Sunday that Turkey might intervene in Israel, similar to their past actions in Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh, although he did not provide specific details about the nature of such intervention.

Erdogan, a strong critic of Israel’s assault on Gaza, made these remarks while discussing the progress Turkey has made in defense production. Speaking to members of his party, Erdogan indicated that Turkey could intervene in the Israel-Gaza conflict.

He referenced the 2020 conflict in Libya, where Turkey supported the United Nations-recognized government, and last year’s operation when Turkish allies in Azerbaijan took control of the Nagorno-Karabakh region, suggesting Turkey could take similar actions to support the Palestinians, though he did not elaborate further.

In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said Erdogan “follows in the footsteps of Saddam Hussein who threatened to attack Israel.
