Waring Clans in Mudug reach truce

Galkayo July 21, 2024(QJ) -Key points for the settlement of the Western Mudug conflict have been agreed upon today in the Maygaagta area of the region.

Officials from the Puntland and Galmudug administrations, accompanied by traditional elders from both clans, announced the final details for implementing the ceasefire decisions regarding the conflict between the clans. They have decided to conduct a verification process to ensure the implementation of previously established measures related to the disarmament of the militias involved in the conflict.

Additionally, they instructed the security forces to ensure that no further clashes occur until a formal peace agreement is implemented, recognizing that it is illegal to establish structures or settlements on the land where the fighting took place.

Furthermore, the parties agreed that the peace talks would be limited to the traditional elders of both sides, with the Galmudug and Puntland administrations overseeing the process.

They also decided that on August 5, 2024, an official peace conference for the two clans will be held in Galkayo to finalize the peace negotiations between the warring parties.
