Blinken talks up Palestinian statehood i n Japan
Tokyo November 09, 2023 (QJ) -The U.S. Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, has called on a state for the Palestinians that includes United West Bank and Gaza Strip, once the current conflict ends. This is a step that could make Palestine a full-fledged state.
The U.S. government’s stance emphasizes the need for a ceasefire between Israelis and Palestinians, with a focus on the Palestinian territory, following the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Blinken’s comments on how the United States views the situation in Gaza are also in contrast to the strong statements made by Israeli officials and their military actions. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday that Israel’s military will continue to manage Gaza with stability, an assertion that was met with disapproval by the U.S. government.
Blinken, speaking to reporters while in Japan, stated that any future plans concerning Gaza would involve Palestinian governance, uniting the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
