A court in Puntland convicts Al Shabaab members on terrorism

Garoowe September 24, 2023 (QJ) – A Military Court of Puntland, responsible for handling serious crimes, in Galkacyo, has today handed down heavy sentences to three men accused of being associated with Al-Shabaab.

The court’s decisions came after it reviewed the cases of the three accused individuals with their defense.

Abdikadir Abukar Sheikh Mohamed, aged 29, was found guilty of throwing a grenade at a Police station and sentenced to fifteen years in prison.

Ismaaciil Da’ud Jiirow (Xarfaaney), aged 33, was also found guilty and received a thirty-year prison sentence. He was accused of being a member of Al-Shabaab.

Similarly, Mohamed Deeq Salaad Abdi Ibrahim, aged 23, was sentenced to twenty years in prison. He, too, was accused of being associated with Al-Shabaab.

The court has provided the convicted individuals with the option to appeal these sentences within a period of 30 days if they are not satisfied with the verdicts.
