Two government journalists behind bars in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa—Ethiopia arrested on Saturday Fikadu Mirkana,  journalist for TV Oromiya.

Police took him to police station after he was arrested while at home.

Mr. Fikadu Mirkana is among the most well known reporters for Oromiya’s television which is state run television.

Family members say that they do not where he is in custody.

Ismael Buurgaabo, a journalist in Jigjiga is under police detention.

He used to work for Somali regional television in Jigjiga.

Free press organizations are concerned the arrest of the two government reporters in Ethiopia and are calling the authorities to release them immediately without further conditions.

Ethiopia is known for its anti freedom of the media and cracks down reporters who write or oppose its policies.
