Somalia: Galkayo war ends after state presidents sign a peace deal

GALKAYO— Regional presidents of Puntland Hon. Abdiwali Gaas and his Galmudug counterpart Hon. Abdikarim Husein Guleid has held their first meeting in Galkayo airport and signed a peace agreement.

The historic deal signed today was in attendance by Somali Prime Minister and regional presidents of Jubaland and South West administration as well as other international community representatives.

The comprehensive deal that has been signed this morning by the two leaders include the following points:-

1. It has been jointly agreed to a ceasefire agreement and that all signs of hostility to end.

2. Both sides to remove their soldiers from the battle ground.

3. Internally Displaced People from Galkayo should be allowed to return safely.

4. Creating a committee that will discuss the issues that instigated the hostilities.

Having the two regional presidents shook hands showed that peace is returning to Galkayo after days of clashes.
