Turkish Consulate Cancels Tri-partite meeting in Somaliland

Hargeisa –  The Turkish Consulate in Hargeisa yesterday canceled a tri-partite meeting sheduled to take place on Friday (27, November) which would see the attedance of civil society organizations, traditional leaders and other leaders. The meeting was supposed to be held at the Turkish Consulate compound in Sha’ab village according to the press statement issued by the consulate.

The reason for the cancelation of the meeting was due to the political sensitivity which arose after reports emerged that the traditional elders from both Somalia and Somaliland were planned to attend the talks instead of government representatives.

photos released showed that the current Turkish consular hosting a meeting with some of the traditional leaders from Somaliland.

Later, the gov’t of Somaliland has rejected the Turkish plan to switch the talks from gov’t representatives to traditional elders to resume the stalled Somalia/Somaliland dialogue.
