Somali native in Minnesota says she’s traumatized after restaurant attack
COON RAPIDS, Minn. (AP) — A woman says she feels “traumatized” and is thinking about moving out of Minnesota after another woman allegedly attacked her in a restaurant because she was speaking in a foreign language.
Asma Jama tells Minnesota Public Radio News (http://bit.ly/1S7gWxE ) she was chatting with her family at a booth at an Applebee’s in Coon Rapids Oct. 30 when authorities say a woman in nearby booth smashed a beer mug in Jama’s face.
Jama had been speaking Swahili with her family. The attack left cuts on her face and a deep gash on her lip. Jama is an ethnic Somali who came to Minnesota in 2000 from Kenya. She says the attack left her “traumatized” and she’s thinking about moving out of Minnesota.
