The Administration in Hargeisa handed over to Ethiopia two Somali civilians from Ogaden
ONLF Press Release October 11, 2015 The Administration in Hargeisa (Northern Somaliland) handed two civilians from Ogaden Somaliland to the Ethiopian government on October 9, 2015.
Mr Ahmed Sh. Muhumed Omar and Mr Kayd Mohamed Askar were detained in February and were held in Hargeisa prison. The relatives of the two victims contacted the administration and the elders in Hargeisa and were given assurances that the detainees will be released.
The victims were traveling to Southern Somaliland on their way to the Kenyan refugee camps.
However, after signing a new one-sided security agreement with the Ethiopian regime in Diredhaba in August this year, the administration in Hargeisa is now proving its loyalty to the Ethiopian regime by starting again the handing over of civilians from Ogaden Somaliland to the Ethiopian government.
This is a flagrant violation of international law and the administration in Northern Somaliland, which itself is claiming to seek self-determination from Southern Somaliland, shall respect the rights of their Somali brethren from Ogaden Somaliland.
Continuing this criminal and inhumane acts targeting Somalis in Ogaden Somaliland will exacerbate the relations between the two communities that have social and economic ties. Therefore, we call Northern Somaliland elders to rein in their erstwhile Ethiopian manipulated administration. Issued by ONLF
