Former President of Somaliland Apologizes for His Party’s wipe-out and hits back his former minister
Hargeysa 12.June 2015 (SDN/QJ)- The former president of Somaliland, Dahir Riyale Kahin has regretfully apologized for the total wipe -out of his party by ‘handing over the UDUB party leadership’ to what he described as a politician without ambition.
Arriving at Hargeisa’s aiport from Dubai, the former president who briefly spoke to the media was asked about what he makes the current political situation in Somaliland and the political deadlock over the election postponement that caused the ten months extension term in office for his predecessor.
“There were (good) reasons to postpone elections during my time and there was terror attack on the presidential palace resulting the evacuation of the ‘Indians’ administering the perfidious voting registration” Said the former president of Somaliland explaining the reasons elections were postponed during his reign when his predecessor was furiously against any election postponement as the main opposition leader.
The former UDUB leader also took the opportunity in the media briefing on his return from Paris to apologize the UDUB party members and those who wanted to become his predecessor and pursued the leadership of the totally wiped -out of UDUB party.
“I want to take opportunity today to apologize those who wanted to replace me for the UDUB leadership for handing over the party leadership to Ali (the current interior minister) who has no ambition to become president and pursue beyond ministerial post, and who brags about himself as the party is in his pocket” Said the former UDUB party leader.
” I’m apologizing for those who had the ambitions to become president (with UDUB leadership), including my former vice president, the wider UDUB members and Jamal, and Abdirashid (current UCID presidential candidates) who submitted their candidacy but I disregarded” Added the fomer Somaliland president who for the first time apologized for the wipe- out of his The People’s Democratic Party better known UDUB.
President Riyale Kahin also promised the comeback of his UDUB party as the main party that led the democratisation process in Somaliland in the first place, but rejected the idea of him coming back to the politics and re-running for presidency in the future.
“I don’t have the desire to come back (and) I want to be prime example that when you became president you can let others also take their chance” Said the longest served president of Somaliland.
