15 killed in clashes in Somali
At least 15 people were killed and 20 others injured in clashes between army troops and gunmen in Somalia’s central Galguduud region, eyewitnesses have said.
Gunmen affiliated with the Ahlu Sunna Waljamaa group carried out an attack on Guriel town, prompting clashes with army troops stationed in the area, witnesses told.
Both sides used light and heavy weapons in clashes that left 15 dead – including three civilians – and 20 wounded, mostly civilians, witnesses added.
The Somali government has yet to comment on the reported clashes.
Late last month, the Somali army seized Guriel after Ahlu Sunna Waljamaa armmen fled the town.
Ahlu Sunna Waljamaa, a group that controls several parts of central Somalia, is known for fighting the Al-Shabaab militant group.
