Somali Pirates and Iranian Navy Fight

Somali pirates and Iranian Navy fought after the pirates attacked Iranian merchant ships. According to FARS, an Iranian news agency, the Iranian navy saved the ships which were five in number from the pirates.

The clash happened at the Gulf of Aden. Admiral Habibullaah Sayari, the head of the Iranian Navy confirmed the incident and pointed out that several Iranian warships rescued the merchant ships.

The Iranian navy was protecting their merchant ships on the Somali waters since 2008 after Somali pirates abducted an Iranian ship off the coast of Yemen.
