Fiber Optic Connections Is Illegal Says Somali Government

The federal government of Somalia has said it is unlawful to start internet fiber optic connections without the passing the incomplete communication bill in the parliament.

Ismail Dahir Osman the communications advisor of the president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has told Dalsan Radio that it is uncalled for to continue with fiber optic internet connectivity in the country without following the due process of the law.

“We need to set rules and regulations concerning this issue, the parliament is busy drafting communication bill and once passed will set ground for communication strategy in the country,” He said.

He said safety of the internet users-in Somalia should be guaranteed before connectivity saying threats of hacking to national security has become international challenge particularly to intelligence agencies.

Ismail Dahir the communication and technology advisor of the president has added that despite witnessing the launch of fiber optic internet in the country via Halane , the current internet connections in the country are via satellite.
