Somalilandsun – The Development Studies Department at SOAS-University of London, the Bloomsbury Somali Studies Group, in partnership with Kayd Somali Arts and Culture, extend invitation to a Talk event “The Horn of Africa : Can Somalis be Partners for Development” By Professor Ahmed Ismail Samatar.
The Talk event chaired by Dr Laura Hammond shall be held at the Khalili Lecture Theatre, Thornhaugh Street, Russell Square, London WC1H 0XG, from 7pm to 9pm on Monday, 13 January 2014.

Professor Samatar will address in his talk the imperative of development faced by Somali people in the Horn of Africa. He will consider whether Somalis can be partners in these development challenges.
Professor Ahmed Ismail Samatar is a prominent scholar and former Dean of the Institute for Global Citizenship at Macalester College. He is the founding editor of Bildhaan: an International Journal of Somali Studies. Professor Samatar has lectured at many universities/colleges, and other institutions, including: Universities of Amsterdam, Auckland (New Zealand), Calgary, Cape Town, Cornell, the German Institute for Strategic and International Affairs (Berlin), Harvard, Iowa, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London School of Economics and Political Science, and many more prestigious universities around the world.
Professor Samatar’s expertise is in the areas of global political economy, political and social theory, and African development.
The talk will be followed by questions and answer session with Professor Ahmed Ismail Samatar.
