Somaliland’s New Foreign Minister Takes Office
Hargeisa, July 28, 2013 (SDN) —Mohamed Bihi Yonis took office yeterday as Somaliland’s new Foreign affairs minister after his predecessor Mohamed Abdilahi Omer transferred as the minister of commerce in last month’s cabinet reshuffle. The new minister will serve as acting minister until the parliament votes on his confirmation.
In a speech at the ceremony which was held in Foreign ministry headquarters, outgoing Minister Mohamed Abdilahi Omer congratulated Mohamed Bihi Yonis for the new post. The new minister praised the former minister’s job, saying that he will continue the efforts of his predecessor.
The change of guard ceremony was attended attended by member’s of cabinet ministers, MP’s, head of opposition party Faisal Ali Warabe and other guests.
Dr. Sa’ad Ali Shire, Minister of National planning has urged the new FM to convince the international community on Somaliland’s case and to lure them to invest the tiny nation in the horn where the youth will get employment chances.
He reminded the FM that this ministry has paramount importance to the republic as it is seeking recognition from the world.
Somaliland’s defense minister has commended the work done by the ex-FM and encouraged the new one to continue the task left behind by his predecessor.
Finance, Information and health minister welcomed the new FM and prayed the almighty Allah to make easy for him to discharge the national duty.
Ms. Adna Adam has sad that the new foreign minister has to leave a legacy for the foreign policy of Somaliland’s foreign Affairs.
The chairman of Somaliland’s main opposition party Faisal Ali Warabe has hoped success for the new FM.
Ex-FM Mohamed Abdilahi, the new Commerce minister has told that he will work with him.
Somaliland’s new FM who has taken the helm told that with diplomatic experience that he attained during the years that he worked with the world will make big difference to foreign affairs ministry o Somaliland.
He replaces Mohamed Abdilahi Omar who has been the helm for two years ever since Kulmiye came to power in 2010.
