54 years and the conflicts initiated as a consequence of UNIONIST ideals continue to plague the HORN of AFRICA…
Somaliland-Republic gained it’s independence 26-June-1960 at the end of the British Protectorate agreement dating back to 1884.
The Territory of Somalia-Italia colony was created in 1925 from the merger of Jubaland with the the Italian colony to it’s north forming Somalia-Italia(Somalia). The Italians granted Somalia it’s independence 01-Jul-1960.
The TWO independent countries entered into a voluntary un-ratified verbal agreement to form a Union to be NAMED the Somali-Republic.
The Only motivation for the UNION was to act as a precursor to entice Djbouti, Kilil5(Ethiopia) and NFD(Kenya) into a PAN-SOMALI-UNION comprising 5-Equal STATES.
In 1963 during the process of granting independence to Kenya by Britain the Somali region of NFD and it’s somali population Made no significant effort to part ways with Kenya to join with the Planned Pan-Somali-Union and their Kenyan country men made it clear that the land will remain part of Kenya and the Somalis if they chose were welcome to depart.
In 1967 The Djibouti Somalis chose to remain within their French colonial status and would remain so until 1977 when they final achieved full independence. Following independence they made it very clear they had no intention of entering into any form of political relationship with the proposed 5-state Pan-Somali state.
Last but not least Kilil5(Ethiopia) would be the battle field of the 1977 war between the Somali-Union and Ethiopia when an attempt was made to liberate by force the Somali-regions in Ethiopia. The attempt failed and left the UNION in disarray.
Following the failed attempts to entice NFD, Djibouti and Kilil into the Plans Union the dream began to fade and as a consequence there was no longer an incentive to retain the Un-ratified 1960-Union of Somali-Republic with only 2-states out of the intended 5-states… Inter-Union conflicts, coup d’etat, Genocide and displacements became the norm between 1977 to 1991.
Having experienced the bitterness of UNIONISM and genocide the Somaliland-Republic in 1991 declared it’s unilateral dissolution of the failed 1960-UNION. From inception the UNION was fraught with Despair, death and destruction be it as a consequence of the sacrifices made in the hope of a Pan-Somali-State or the eventual destruction caused by Somalia-Italia the Union partner turn from loving mistress to murderous killer like Jakyll and Hyde.
The 23-Years since dissolution of the Un-holly Pan-Somali-Union although unilaterally Somaliland-republic has enjoyed peace and semblance of development and progress.
In those same 23-years Somalia-Italia who is still clinging onto a dead Union has experienced total state collapse and failure to the point where Piracy has cost the international community $7Billion a years between 2006-2010. To date 20,000 Troops from Au Forces are stationed attempting to regain control while billions more are spent patrolling the coast of this failed state. Despite it’s failure and the lessons demonstrated by Somaliland-Republic the failed state of Somalia(Somalia-Italia) refuses to accept reality and abandon Unionist ideals which continues to fuel it’s never ending feuds and conflicts. In addition it is not difficult to recognize Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenyan intervention within the conflicts of Somalia-Italia after all UNIONISM claims territory within the sovereign borders of these countries. In the interest of self preservation these countries that have Somali regions will never have any vested interest to ever allow Somalia-Italia to attain peace… For no sooner Somalia-Italia attains peace it would begin to pursue it’s Grand UNIONISM ideals of the 1960ies once again.
54 years and the conflicts initiated as a consequence of UNIONIST ideals continue to plague the HORN of AFRICA…
Somaliland-Republic has set course on a trajectory of independence and sovereign co-existence with it’s neighbors, their territories and respecting the AU-Charter on territorial integrity correlating to those gained at the point of independence from the colonials. This is the path to sustainable peace in the HORN…
The question of Somaliland’s independence cannot be left to the AU or African states and the reason being that the 1st African state to recognize Somaliland’s right will endure an endless political rift with Somalia-Italia… This is harmful for the African-Union and it’s future aspirations as a continent. Just as in South-Sudan the influence must come first from a NON-AU-Member so as to preserve the good political relations within the construct of the AU.
For the sake of preserving the Fragile AU a non AU-Member must be the first country to recognize Somaliland-Republic
