Rapper K’naan Performs Hajj
MOGADISHU,Sunday September 13, 2015 – Somali-Canadian rapper K’naan Warsame has posted photos on social media while performing hajj in Saudi Arabia with his family, in an action that was praised by his fans.
“Standing before Al-Masjid Al-Nabawi, with the prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) house and burial site behind me, Madinah is a living and breathing history, one of the most enchanting cities on the planet,” K’naan wrote, Nep Journal reported.
“Praying here with my beautiful mother and sister – this is a childhood dream come true.”
The Muslim poet and singer was accompanied by his mother and sister in the life-time journey that lasts for three weeks.
Born in 1978 in Mogadishu in the southeastern Banaadir province of Somalia, K’naan fled as a 9-year old with his family in the early 90s and eventually settled in Canada’s Toronto, where he developed his brilliant lyrical talent.
After becoming a regular on MTV, K’naan has stayed true to his roots. His lyrics are a testimony to the troublesome journey of the Somali people and an indication that their legendary eloquence will find new forms for exile and will continue to pay tribute to the place where it all began.
He made it to huge success in 2010 after his single “Wavin’ Flag” was chosen as Coca-Cola’s promotional anthem for the FIFA World Cup.
K’naan’s photos in Makkah were praised by his fans who wished him a peaceful journey.
“May Allah (SWT) accept you and your mama’s HAJJ. (AMIN). Pray for us K’NAAN” social media userNafiur Rahman Khan posted.
Another one wrote: “Maasha Allah my Allah bless you both also make dua for our country and Somali people.”
Muslims from around the world pour into Makkah every year to perform hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam.
Hajj consists of several ceremonies, which are meant to symbolize the essential concepts of the Islamic faith, and to commemorate the trials of Prophet Abraham and his family.
Every able-bodied adult Muslim who can financially afford the trip must perform hajj at least once in a lifetime.
Hajj 2015 is anticipated to fall between September 20 and September 25, taking place from the 8th to the 12th of Dhul-Hijjah, the last month of the Hijri calendar.
